Russia aims at enhancing the cooperation with Cyprus, including the parliamentary line, said state Duma speaker Sergei Naryshkin.
At the meeting with the President of Cyprus Nikos Anastasiadis Chairman of the lower house of the Russian Parliament said that this Republic is Russia an important and traditional partner due to cultural, spiritual and religious traditions”.
“We are focused on further expansion of cooperation with Cyprus, including the parliamentary line. We value our relationship with our partners, we are very grateful Cypriot parliamentarians for the position and for the fact that members of the Cypriot Parliament voted against the resolution, PACE, limiting the powers of the Russian delegation,” Naryshkin said.
Interstate relations between Russia and Cipro to him, Russia and Cyprus are very similar and matching positions on most issues of international life, which is largely due to the “serial position of Russia in the settlement of the Cyprus problem”.
The speaker noted that Russia appreciates the leadership of Cyprus, which expressed a negative opinion to his colleagues in the European Union in relation to anti-sanctions.
“We appreciate the position of our colleagues, the Parliament of Cyprus, which adopted a resolution to oppose the anti-sanctions,” he added.
In turn, Anastasiadis said that every time the issue was discussed in the introduction of the anti-sanctions in the European Union, Cyprus opposed.
“We have said that such sanctions will inevitably have an impact not only on Russia, as well as a number of EU countries, especially those that have close trade and economic relations with Russia”, - said the President of Cyprus.
He also expressed the hope that the friendly relations between Russia and Cyprus, the parliaments of the two countries will continue.
