Poll: majority of Russians think that the sanctions have exacerbated the situation in the Russian Federation

More than half of Russians (57%) claim that the anti-sanctions imposed by some countries on the background of the conflict in Ukraine, has led to negative consequences and worsened the situation in the Russian Federation, whereas six months ago believed that only 15% of respondents, according to all-Russian center for public opinion research (VTSIOM).

Relations between Russia and the West deteriorated in connection with the situation in Ukraine. In late July of last year, the EU and the USA from the point of sanctions against certain individuals and companies have moved to the measures against entire sectors of the Russian economy. In response, Russia restricted imports of food products from countries that have imposed sanctions against her. On Wednesday it became known that President Barack Obama has extended a year sanctions against Russia.

According to VTSIOM, for half a year several times increased the percentage of respondents marking the deteriorating situation in the country because of sanctions - from 15% to 57%. About the improvement of the situation say 18%, in August 2014 so believed 15%. Those who do not see any changes for six months was much lower: from 62% to 19%.

A third of respondents (33%) believes that through sanctions Western countries wanted to lead Russia to the economic crisis, every fifth call their main aim of weakening the Russian state on the world stage (22%), try to bend to his will (20%).

From the time the first wave of anti-Russian sanctions their actions became more tangible: in August 2014 that personally felt the impact of these measures, saying only 5% of Russians know about them, but today it is 45%. First of all, complain about the higher prices and a deterioration in the financial position (85%). Not note for yourself or your loved ones any consequences 50%.

The poll conducted on 14-15 February 2015. Respondents 1.6 thousand people in 132 villages in 46 regions of Russia. The statistical error does not exceed 3.5%.
