Serena Williams 16th in the quarterfinals of the US Open

The owner of 23 Grand Slam, Serena Williams defeated Petra Martic with a score of 6-3, 6-4 in the match on September 1st night.

Serena Williams broke her ankle after a volley at 2-2 in the set of two, but luckily the injury was not serious. The US player lost 18 points in his assigned games and saved two of the three chances of losing the game delivered to play the 16th quarter-final in New York. Since 2006, she has never failed before this round.

Petra Martic did his best but could not resist the onslaught of Serena Williams. The Croatian faced eight break-points but only managed to resolve three times, before losing the game in 92 minutes.

Martic made a mark as soon as he entered the game. From being led from 0 to 40, the seed of 22 won five points in a row to win the game to catch the ball at the beginning of the match after the Williams’ deep forehand. However, Serena quickly responded by removing the three points Martic handed in the next game to equalize 1-1 with a winner along the line.

Six-time champion in the US Open took the initiative in the rest of the set. Serena won four points returned in the eighth game to win another game of defending after a backhand winner. She saved two face-break break points in the final game, before closing the first set of wins.

In the second set, Serena was given a medical examination by the doctor to check the ankle after a dislocated situation in the fifth game. Overcoming that injury, the 37-year-old despite missing four chances in the seventh game, is still very sure in the game of serving when not facing any break-point.

Serena ended the match with a fourth ace in the match to win a ticket to the US Open Round of 2019. During the match, she won nearly 80% of the first serve, scored 38 winner points and made 19 self-defeating errors. And rival Martic has only 11 points and 12 similar errors, respectively.

In the quarterfinals, Serena Williams will meet Wang Qiang - the first Chinese player to reach the US Open quarter-finals, after Peng Shuai in 2014. Qiang has successfully defeated the world’s number two player Ashleigh Barty 6-2, 6-4 in a match where defending champion Roland Garros missed all nine break-points, and saved only half of the six risk of losing the game delivered.
