The construction of new nuclear power units with the participation of Russia in Iran is a very important step to develop partnerships between the two countries, said the Vice-President of Iran, the head of the organization for atomic energy of Iran, Ali Akbar Salehi.
Earlier on Tuesday, the Russian Federation and Iran signed a number of documents aimed at development of cooperation in the field of the peaceful atom. In particular, a contract was signed for the construction of two new units of the Iranian nuclear power plant at Bushehr.
Construction in Iran nuclear units will be under IAEA safeguards”This is a turning point in relations between our countries,” Salehi said after the signing ceremony. He reminded that Russia is actively helping to develop the industry in Iran.
“These friendly measures taken by Russia, will remain in our memory,” said Salehi. He added that now Russia and Iran “even more close to each other”.
Salehi personally thanked the head of state Corporation “Rosatom” Sergey Kiriyenko and all Russian specialists, who participated in the preparation of the signed Tuesday of documents.
In turn, Kiriyenko said that Russia and Iran have acquired a wide experience of cooperation on nuclear energy.
“We are rightly proud of the NPP “Bushehr”he said. The head of Rosatom reminded that this is a unique project that has no analogues in the history of the world nuclear energy, since no one was taken for the completion of the station, construction of which started another country (in this case Germany).
Kiriyenko said that the Bushehr nuclear power plant has generated more than $ 7 billion kilowatt/hours. “NPP “Bushehr” is the subject of our common pride. This is a sample performance by the parties of their obligations and good human cooperation,” - said Kiriyenko.
According to the head of Rosatom, signed a contract for the construction of new units is a comprehensive package of documents relating to the construction.
Kiriyenko stressed that all work on the construction of new units will be carried out strictly in accordance with international law, to be under IAEA safeguards and to comply with the international non-proliferation obligations.
The Rosatom Director General also thanked the Iranian colleagues for their hard work.
